Acquisition of the operation of Betec-Engineering, specialists in the development and distribution of Bluewave™ active harmonic filters
(Luterbach, January 5, 2009) On January 1, 2009, the Schaffner Group (SIX Swiss Exchange: SAHN) took over employees, technology and assets of the German Betec-Engineering (www.bluewavepower.net). The company, which specializes in the development and distribution of Bluewave™ active harmonic filters, posted sales of approximately EUR 2 million in fiscal 2008, and has a staff headcount of around 10. Harmonic filters make an important contribution to ensuring smooth and efficient operation of modern power networks, for example in building infrastructure, in data centers, production plants and transport systems. In certain cases, harmonic filters can also contribute to a considerable reduction in electricity costs. Betec-Engineering's Bluewave™ active harmonic filters will ideally complement the Schaffner ECOsine™ family of passive harmonic filters, which was launched in 2008. As part of the integration, the Schaffner Group will commence volume production of active harmonic filters in its plant in Shanghai starting in March 2009.
With ECOsine™ and the Bluewave™ technology, Schaffner has a state-of-the-art product offering for harmonic filters and aims to generate significant additional sales in this sustainable growing market.

At the SPS Drives in Nuremberg, Betec Engineering GmbH (hall 1, stand 540) presents the complete product group of BLUEWAVE active harmonic filters (AHF) for the first time. Units with compensation currents of 100, 200, and 250 amps are now available in addition to the existing 30, 50, and 300-amp versions. And one more new feature: BLUEWAVE is now available in three-conductor and four-conductor versions.
The BLUEWAVE active harmonic filter (AHF) went into regular operation in a new facility at a large university clinic. It compensates for harmonic oscillations in the central building ventilation system so reliably that the measured values are well below the thresholds.
With the AHF BLUEWAVE 300A, Betec Engineering GmbH placed first at the Productivity Award 2008. This award honors outstanding engineering that increases productivity and process reliability in Germany.
